Plate : Each Desiccator is supplied with a thick perforated. Polythene plate, nomerous holeas are provided for air tranfer and support of dishes, plate has a centre hole for easy removal. However, porcelain platers are to be used in case of incandescent crucibles.

Melting Point Apparatus

The Apparatus is very useful in the determination of melting point of any substance in smell quantity upto 300° C. It consists of an aluminium block which accepts three capillary tubes and a mercury thermometer. The block is heated by two elements clamped to the sides. The built in lamp provides uniform and shadowless illumination of sample tube which are viewed through the magnifying lens against eithera dark or bright back ground selected by rotating a knob to the rear of the apparatus. A built in rotatory rheostate gives accurate adjustment of the rate of increase of temperature as melting is approched. Both the heaters are kept on in the low as well as high position of the toggle switch, thus ensuring uniform heating from both the sides of the block. A second toggle switch on the right side contracts the lamp and power input to the apparatus. Heating block and controls are enclosed in enamel painted metal case.
