Filtering flasks are usually used with some sort of vacuum assembly. The most economical is an aspirator that connects to the kitchen tap. A filter flask can also be used with different types of funnels such thistle tubes, buchner funnels and the like. Filter flasks are used to speed up filtration by connecting a vacuum aspirator to a water tap (faucet). The flowing water creates a slight vacuum in the filtering bottle which pulls the liquid through faster than gravity alone.
