PLC Training Equipment: Programmable Logic Controller Trainers

A programmable logic controller is the single most common piece of control hardware a technician will meet on a plant floor, which is why PLC training equipment is the foundation of almost every automation curriculum. Our PLC trainers are built around industrial CPUs rather than software simulators, so a student who learns ladder logic on our bench is working with the same processor, the same addressing and the same fault behaviour they will meet in industry.

What our PLC training systems include

Each trainer carries an industrial PLC CPU with a stated count of digital and analogue inputs and outputs, shrouded 4 mm terminals for safe student wiring, an HMI touch panel, and communication ports for serial, Ethernet or fieldbus exercises. Application modules are supplied as separate plug-in panels so one CPU can drive several exercises: traffic light control, lift control, conveyor sorting, bottle filling, car parking, pick and place, star-delta starting and process tank level control.

Fault insertion and competency assessment

Competency-based curricula assess diagnosis rather than assembly, so our trainers include keyed fault-insertion switches. An instructor can set a scenario without the class seeing which fault is active, and every fault is documented in the experiment manual with the expected symptom. This is the feature that separates a programming bench from a maintenance training system, and it is worth stating explicitly in a tender.

Software, licences and documentation

Programming software is supplied with the licence type and seat count confirmed in writing on the quotation, which avoids the most common dispute in PLC tender supply. Every system ships with an experiment manual covering theory, ladder diagrams, procedure and expected results, full circuit diagrams, component datasheets and a spares list with manufacturer part numbers.

Specifying PLC training equipment for tender

State the CPU class, the digital and analogue I/O count, the communication protocols required, whether an HMI is included and its size, the number of application modules, whether fault insertion is required and how many faults, and the software licence seat count. Also state the supply voltage, frequency, phase and plug type at the installation site — equipment is built to that supply before production rather than adapted afterwards.
